NORTH MUSKEGON — The visiting Montague Wildcats had 28 steals on Monday night and defeated North Muskegon 42-27.

Montague trailed 10-4 after one quarter, but a 16-0 advantage in the second quarter led the Wildcats with a 20-10 lead at the half.

The Wildcats surged to a 38-17 lead after three quarters.

Emma Peterson led Montague with 18 points, including four 3-pointers. Haylee Schwarz had eight points and five rebounds. Ella King had six points and five rebounds.

Grace Philpot led North Muskegon with 10 points, including 6-for-6 from the free-throw line. Fran Vinson added eight points and five rebounds. Georgia Skujins had five rebounds.

“We had a very satisfying first quarter with our defense getting stops that led to some breaks that we were able to finish,” North Muskegon coach Sarah Knuth said. “Montague’s second-quarter full court pressure flustered us and we threw the ball away repeatedly that they turned into easy points.”
North Muskegon (5-13, 4-6) will celebrate Senior Night on Tuesday when Holton comes to town.
Montague (12-7, 7-3) hosts Manistee on Thursday.
