Western Michigan Christian High School has named Jeffery Bauer, the top assistant men’s basketball coach at Grand Valley State University, as its new boys varsity basketball coach. LSJ Logo incert

Bauer, who will also teach physical education at WMC, coached at GVSU for the last nine years under Ric Wesley. The Lakers went 192-78 during Bauer’s tenure as assistant coach.

The 1993 Newaygo High School grad has coached throughout Michigan, working for Central Michigan University (1999-00, 03-06) and the Grand Rapids Hoops of the Continental Basketball Association (2001-02). He also served as head coach at Grand Rapids Creston High School  in 2002-03, posting a 12-9 record.

“We feel incredibly blessed to have someone with Jeff’s experience join our coaching staff,” said WMC athletic director Josh Glerum. “Jeff is committed to developing our student-athletes and providing Godly leadership. His joining both our coaching staff and being part of our faculty will be a great addditon to the WMC community.”

“Basketball is a great way to teach life lessons,” Bauer said in a statement  released by the school. “It is a team sport and I expect my players to have a servant’s mentality. You must respect others and communicate. We need tremendous leaders and tremendous followers.”
