MUSKEGON–Mariah Sain and Ty’Veonna Davis each scored 20 points as the Muskegon Lady Big Reds cruised to a 61-41 OK-Green victory over Grand Rapids Union on Tuesday evening.

With the victory, Muskegon remains tied for second place in the league standings with Zeeland West at 9-2, one game behind Reeths-Puffer. There are three games remaining in conference play. The Big Reds improved to 12-7 overall and travels to Wyoming on Friday.

Sain, a freshman guard, did her scoring damage in the first half by scoring 16 points. She scored eight points in the first quarter in which Muskegon had a 15-13 lead. The Big Reds increased their lead to 33-17 by the half with Sain popped in eight more points. Sophomore forward Breanna Gamble-Jones chipped in six points in the quarter. She finished the game with eight points.

Davis, a senior forward, took over in the second half by scoring all of her points after halftime. She scored 11 points in the third period as Muskegon held a 13-10 scoring edge and led 46-27 entering the fourth quarter.

Davis canned nine more points in the final eight minutes as the Big Reds closed the door on the Red Hawks. Muskegon cashed in at the free throw line going 16-of-25.
