MUSKEGON — The Reeths-Puffer Rockets came out strong and set an early tone to Wednesday’s hockey game against Kentwood.

The Rockets turned on the red light six times in the opening period and cruised to a 9-0 victory in a game that was stopped due to the mercy rule in prep hockey.

The goal-scoring barrage began early. Tyler Tindall scored on a rebound with assists from Jaxon Stone and Eli Cuti. Avery Freeman made it 2-0 just 5 minutes later. His one-timer was assisted by Croix Klint.

The third goal came minutes later when Klint scored a goal of his own with assists to Avery Wolfe-Sabo and Kaeden Benner. Tindall struck just 23 seconds later for his second of the game. Connor Stawski’s shot nicked Tindall and went into the net. Jake Lee also assisted.

With less than 3 minutes remaining in the first period, Cuti scored with assists to Stoner and Tindall. Benner intercepted a pass at the blue line, took a couple strides and unloaded a shot that found the back of the net. That goal came with 3 seconds left in the period.

Early in the second period, Rocket goaltender Tanner Bonjernoor made a save and swatted the puck to Isaiah Winters, who went end to end and scored to make it 7-0.

Later, Freeland scored a shorthanded goal with help from Stawski and Lee. Freeland’s goal was a “Michigan goal” where he scooped up the puck onto the blade of his stick and wrapped it around the post and flicked it into the net.

Sean Gieske scored his first varsity goal with assists to Tindall and Stone with just under 10 minutes left in the middle period.

Bonjernoor made 10 saves in the shutout.

“It was awesome to see the boys play so hard for the seniors and to support them like that in their last home game,” said Rocket coach Ryan Martin. “Several seniors tallied points tonight, including Gieske getting his first career varsity goal in his last home game.  I am really proud of the way these guys play for one another and celebrate each others accomplishments.”
