WALKERVILLE–Walkerville dropped a hard-fought boys’ basketball game on Wednesday.

The Wildcats fell, 43-41, in West Michigan ‘D’ League action.

The Wildcats raced out to a 18-6 lead after the first eight minutes and led 21-12 at the half.

They couldn’t finish off Bear Lake, though, as the Lakers took the lead, 29-27, by the end of the third period by outscoring Walkerville 17-6. Both teams put up 14 points during the final eight minutes as Bear Lake held on for the win.

“Well, once again, we had a lead going into half and can’t finish the game on the top side,” said Walkerville coach Lee Oomen. “We didn’t take care of the ball and missed plenty of easy opportunities in the second half to seal the game.”

Connor Shafer had 14 points to lead Walkerville while Collin Chase tossed in 12 points and came up with five steals.  Zeontae DeLa Paz chipped in 10 points and grabbed eight rebounds.
