HUDSONVILLE — It was a rough opening half for the Spring Lake Lakers on Tuesday night.

Host Hudsonville Unity Christian raced out to a double-digit lead at the half, then hung on for a 55-50 victory over the Lakers.

Spring Lake fought back to within two points after a 20-8 scoring binge in the third quarter. Unity sealed the victory by making 5-of-7 free throws down the stretch.

By contrast, the Lakers made just 4-of-18 free throws in the game.

Zach Schlepp led Spring Lake with 15 points. Eli Morrison and Zane Stahl each added 13. Stahl also had nine rebounds, three assists and two blocks. Colin Burt and Jaden Core added solid minutes in the setback.

Spring Lake (9-8, 6-5 OK-Blue) plays at Hamilton on Friday.
