WALKERVILLE — Pentwater already had two wins over Walkerville heading into Monday’s Division 4 district game against the Walkerville Wildcats.

However, getting that third win proved to be elusive as the host Wildcats posted a low-scoring 26-24 victory over the shorthanded Falcons, who came into the game short three guards.

“The girls that played tonight gave it their all, and played absolutely hard for 32 minutes,” said Pentwater coach Joe Gorton. “The first 20 minutes or so we were getting good looks, and getting good stops.

“We went into the break up nine, and the lead felt fairly comfortable,” he said. “All year long, offensive production has been our biggest hurdle and it reared its ugly head again in the fourth quarter.”

Things started out well enough for the Falcons with an 11-5 lead after the first quarter. Pentwater edged the Wildcats, 8-5, in the second period and carried a 19-10 lead into the half.

Walkerville turned things around in the second half, outscoring the Falcons, 6-4, in the third quarter and narrowed the deficit to 23-16. Pentwater didn’t score a field goal in the final eight minutes and finished with just a free throw, while the Wildcats scored 10 points.

Jehara Davis scored 13 points to lead the Wildcats and Heaven Rodriguez added seven.

Sam Shriver led the Falcons with 10 points and Mackenna Hasil finished with six.

Pentwater finished the season 8-14.

Walkerville (4-18) plays McBain Northern Michigan Christian (9-10) in the district semifinals Wednesday night on its home court.
