FRUITPORT — Other than the Fruitport faithful, there may have not been too many folks who would have picked the Trojans in Wednesday night’s Division 2 district semifinal game against Whitehall.

However, the Trojans rose to the occasion and, in overtime, defeated the visiting Vikings 77-69. Fruitport earned a spot in the district title game at 7 p.m. Friday against rival Spring Lake. That game will be played at Fruitport.

On Wednesday, the Trojans led 14-10 after one quarter and 28-26 at the half. After three quarters, Fruitport led 42-39.

Fruitport needed a late fourth-quarter surge to pull even and force the overtime. Whitehall outscored Fruitport 21-18 in the fourth quarter.

Fruitport ran away with it in the overtime session with a 17-9 scoring advantage.

DayDay Williams led Fruitport (15-9) with 24 points. Paschal Jolman added 15.

Camden Thompson led Whitehall with 27 points, 12 rebounds and five blocked shots. Ca’mar Ready and Jack Houtemann added 12 points each.
