GRAND RAPIDS — There are few answers for a heartbreaking loss in the postseason.
The Mona Shores hockey team found that out in its 3-1 loss to Forest Hills Central in the Division 1 regional finals on Wednesday at Patterson Ice Arena.
Jake Nanna managed to tie the score 1-1 midway through the third period for Mona Shores on an assist from Isaac Habetler.
The momentum swing was not enough.
The Sailors allowed a Central goal with just over 2 minutes left to play and an empty-net goal with 16 seconds left to close the door on the season.
Mona Shores had its opportunities as it held a 22-17 shots on goal advantage. It also had four less penalties compared to Forest Hills Central’s eight trips to the box.
Oliver McDonald took the loss in goal for Mona Shores. He made 15 saves.
Forest Hills Central put in the game’s opening goal early in the first period.
Mona Shores finishes the season with a 15-12 overall record and a second-place finish in league competition.
