NORTH MUSKEGON — Ashley Folkema got the Western Michigan Christian Warriors off and running on Wednesday night.

Folkema scored 13 of her 32 points in the opening quarter and led WMC to a 64-36 victory over North Muskegon in a Division 3 district semifinal game.

The Warriors will take on Saugatuck at 7 p.m. for a district title at North Muskegon.

WM Christian led 24-7 after the first quarter and 41-13 at the half. North Muskegon cut the gap to 20 points after three quarters, but the Warriors finished strong in the fourth.

“We had a great start to the game,” WMC coach Sarah Koetsier said. “We forced several turnovers and had great shots. North Muskegon switched up their defense in the second half, which cause some turnovers and quick baskets.”

Folkema also had seven rebounds for the Warriors. Kirsten VanOrman had 12 points and four assists.  Alia Zuidema and Maria Eenigenburg both had seven points.

North Muskegon was led by Grace Philpot with 11 points. Marilyn Gaston had nine points and Francine Vinson added eight.
