HUDSONVILLE– Travis Ambrose cut loose for 25 points and led the Reeths-Puffer Rockets to a 59-49 victory over Hudsonville on Thursday.

Ambrose also pulled down 15 rebounds and blocked five shots.

The Rockets led 9-8 after one quarter, but then the floodgates opened in the second quarter. Reeths-Puffer had a 23-13 advantage in the second quarter and took a 32-21 lead into the half. In the second half, Hudsonville outscored the Rockets, 28-27.

“It was a great overall effort from our guys against a very good Hudsonville team,” Rocket coach Nate Aardema said. “We have a lot of respect for their program and it was fantastic to go into their place and earn a win in our last regular-season game of the year.”

Jaxson Whitaker added 18 points, five rebounds and four assists for the Rockets. Antrel Jones had six points and six rebounds. Kyle Schlaff was key in the final quarter with five points.

Brayden Szamrej led Hudsonville with 16 points. Mason Dykstra added 13.

Reeths-Puffer (13-9) hosts Kenowa Hills in opening-round district action on Monday.
