CADILLAC — Ludington scored the only goal of the game six minutes into the first half and then held off Cadillac for a 1-0 non-conference girls soccer win Thursday in Cadillac.

Maddy Billings punched in what proved to be the game winner on an unassisted goal.

“I would say the rest of the first half we probably carried the play a little bit more and had more opportunities the first half,” said Ludington coach Kris Anderson. “But the second half was definitely Cadillac’s half. They possessed the ball the most and had the most dangerous opportunities. But, we held them off.”

Ludington’s backline of Jaelyn Laird, Ashley Stowe and Elianna Jeruzal were stout on defense.

Anderson dropped Billings, who played striker in the first half, back on defense in the second half to help the Orioles maintain their strength and shape.

Katie Rangel also had a solid game until an injury sent her to the sideline in the second half.

Freshman keeper Cambria Britton played the entire game in net for the Orioles for the first time and made 10 saves on 10 shots.

“We’re getting better, we’re learning but we’re coming together here a little bit,” Anderson said of his young team.  “There’s going to be some rough patches. It’s nice to pull one out when we can.”

Ludington (1-3-0) is home Monday for a West Michigan Conference Lakes Division game against Whitehall.
