HART — Hart made quick work of Shelby in a West Michigan Conference Rivers Division softball doubleheader Monday, 15-0 and 22-4, at Shelby.

The Pirates blew the game open with 11 runs in the bottom of the second inning and were never threatened.

Gabbryella Schmieding was solid on the mound for Hart. She permitted two hits in three innings before the mercy rule was invoked. She walked three and struck out four.

Hart finished the game with 10 hits, with Abby Hicks leading the way going 3-for-3 with three RBI and three runs scored.

Ambriella Duncan had two hits, drove in one run and scored two. Makayla Rockwell had one hit, drove in three runs and had two runs scored. Kelsey Copenhaver contributed one hit, two RBI and one run scored. Schmieding had one hit and one RBI. Makenna Carrier added one hit, one RBI and two runs scored. Hailey Bond had one hit, two RBIs and one run scored.

Copenhaver needed to pitch just three innings in the nightcap to get the victory. She allowed two earned runs on just one hit, struck out three and walked two.

Jaden Whelpley was the Pirates’ leading hitter with three hits and three runs scored. Hicks was 2-for-2 with two walks and three RBI. Schmieding had one hit, scored three runs and drove in one. Carrier drove in two runs on one hit and one walk, Julia Bishop had one hit and one RBI, Leah Walker had one hit, one walk and two RBI. Addison Schiller drove in one run with a bases loaded walk and scored a run.
