KENT CITY–The Kent City girls softball team opened up the season by sweeping a doubleheader from Lakeview on Tuesday afternoon.

Kent City won the opener, 7-4, and the nightcap, 8-2.

The Central State Activities Association matchup was played in Kent City.

Kent City took the opener 7-4 with Jacee Hoffman getting the win on the mound. Hoffman had 10 strikeouts and one walk.

Lakeview jumped out in front in the third inning. Kent City came from behind by scoring one run in the fourth inning, five more in the fifth inning and tacking on an insurance run in the sixth inning.

Each team had six hits.

Lexie Bowers led Kent City with a pair of hits, including a double.

In the nightcap, Hoffman pitched a complete game to shut down Lakeview. She struck out nine and walked one. She gave up five hits.
 
Kent City, which finished with 10 hits, scored four runs in the first inning.
 
Cailynn Hartzell and Laynee Hoffman both had two hits while Abby Pecynski had one hit and 2 RBI.
