MANISTEE — Manistee’s girls soccer team had no trouble recording its second straight win of the young season Monday afternoon.

Manistee ripped the Traverse City Homeschool team for an 8-0 victory that was shortened due to the mercy rule.

The Chippewas scored four goals in each half to move to 2-0.

“We got a nicer day today,” said Manistee coach Kathy Smith. “We’ll take this on any day. We were defending into the wind and really it was a good test for our defense, to make sure they’re staying together and working together. Then our midfielders figuring out how far to drop back, without dropping too far into the defenders’ way. We still managed to put some balls in the net, too.”

Although the game became a rout, it was a little challenging to start, with the Chippewas held scoreless for the first 12 minutes before Jayna Edmondson scored the first of her two goals at the 28:48 mark.

Manistee also got two goals apiece from freshmen Alayna Edmondson and Lindsey Gardner, as well as junior Allison Kelley. Mariah Bialik contributed three assists.

The Chippewas make their West Michigan Conference debut Wednesday at home against Ravenna with a 5:30 p.m. kickoff.
