NORTON SHORES – The No. 15-ranked Mona Shores boys lacrosse team claimed an exciting overtime victory against undefeated Traverse City Central on Saturday.

The Sailors rallied after being behind the entire game to top Traverse City Central, 13-12.

Lack of possession and a slew of penalties limited the Sailors, but they managed to capitalize on the opportunities they did get to stay in the game.

“We feel that we are still not playing to our potential and are struggling with some penalty issues, but are still very proud of our players for their ability to finish close games,” said Shores coach Murle Greer. “We lack some execution and discipline, but are showing a lot of hustle and heart on the field.”

The Sailors trailed by four goals in the second half, but rallied to tie the game with just two minutes left to play.

An extra-man opportunity opened up for sophomore Ezra Carafelle to net the go-ahead overtime goal off of a pass from senior attacker Brayton Conrad.

Junior mid Hayden Terpstra led the scoring with four goals followed by senior mid JJ Boos and junior attack Dylan Fett with three goals each.

“I attribute our success so far, despite our issues, to a strong group of leaders in our captains,” Greer said. “They are doing a tremendous job and I am very grateful for their efforts.”
