WHITEHALL — The host Whitehall Vikings pounded out 23 hits in the opening game and defeated Spring Lake 19-9 in a non-league softball doubleheader.

Spring Lake turned the tables with a come-from-behind victory, 8-6, in the nightcap.

In Game 1, Onnyka Dempsey, Lianne Fagan and Megan LeaTrea each had four hits to lead the Vikings. LeaTrea, the winning pitcher, knocked in six runs. Taylor Ottinger and Annabel Kevwitch had three hits each and Evie Darke had three RBI.

In the second game, Spring Lake scored two runs in the fifth and three more in the sixth to erase a 5-3 deficit and post the victory.

The bottom of the Vikings’ lineup – Ottinger, Kevwitch and Hailey Carnes – combined for six hits in the nightcap. LeaTrea was saddled with the loss on the mound.
