MONTAGUE–Montague senior Emma Peterson signed her national letter of intent to continue both her basketball and soccer careers next fall at Muskegon Community College.

The signing ceremony was Friday at Montague High School.

Peterson has played varsity soccer for her four years as a Wildcat and has been a part of the varsity basketball team for the past two seasons.

On the soccer field, she plays midfield and on the basketball court she saw most of her playing time as a point guard. She has also played varsity volleyball at Montague.

Peterson has been an all-conference scholar athlete every during her four-year career at Montague. She was an all-conference and all-state honorable mention soccer selection during the 2021-2022 season and a WMC all-conference and all-state honorable mention selection in basketball during the 2022-2023 season.

“I have really wanted to play soccer at MCC for a couple of years and stayed connected with the soccer coach,” said Peterson. “After I was offered for soccer, I knew I was going to go there. I wasn’t expecting to play basketball there, but the basketball coaches at MCC reached out to me about how they would like to have me play basketball there as well.”

But that will have to wait until she’s done with her prep career.

“Being a student athlete at Montague has given me so many great experiences,” she said. “I have had really good connections with great teammates and coaches. After playing sports as a Wildcat, I have gained lots of leadership and communication skills that I will carry with me throughout my career as a student-athlete and beyond.”

Peterson will major in the nursing at MCC. She maintains a 4.389 grade-point-average.

Emma is the daughter of Luke and Billie Jo Peterson.
