SCOTTVILLE — Mason County Central pulled out a couple down to the wire baseball games in the West Michigan Conference Rivers Division Wednesday, 3-2 and 6-5, over visiting Ravenna.

Will Chye started on the hill for the Spartans in the opener and went the full seven innings. He allowed one earned run and struck out 13 while walking none.

Simon Shimel had the game-winning hit and contributed two RBI. Braylin Thurow had the other RBI. Also getting hits were Colten Sanders and Brayden Overmeyer.

In the nightcap, Peyton Merz was the winning pitcher with five innings of work. He allowed three earned runs with five strikeouts. Brady Anes got the save in two innings of relief.

Chye led the Spartans with a triple and two RBI. Anes had a triple along with a single.

Merz contributed to his own cause with two hits and two RBI and Sanders had one RBI. Drake McKay and Shimel each added a single.

It was the Spartans’ seventh straight win and improved their record to 10-6. They compete in the Lakeview Invitational this weekend.

Ravenna fell to 10-8 with its third straight loss and is next scheduled to play Friday at Howard City Tri-County.
