SAUGATUCK — The Mona Shores Sailors ran away from the field and captured the OK-Green golf championship on Wednesday.

The meet was played at The Ravines Golf Club in Saugatuck.

Mona Shores finished with 319 strokes, 30 better than Zeeland West and Holland, both at 349. Zeeland East finished with 361 and Reeths-Puffer at 364.

Mona Shores’ Lucas Dethloff was the tournament medalist with a 75. Holland’s Andrew Legg was second with a 78 and Mona Shores’ Nico Taylor and James Ackley tied for third with an 80.

Other Sailor golfers included Oliver McDonald with an 84 and Carson Andree at 85.

Reeths-Puffer, which finished sixth in the tournament, but third overall in the league, was led by senior David Grimard with an 85. He was followed by Kristian Brown, a freshman, who finished at 86. Brown earned all-conference honors.

Tanner Bonjernoor, a senior, battled through a rough started and finished with a 96. Junior Dylan Panozzo, who earned honorable mention all-conference honors, finished with a 97. Sophomore Ayden Hartzell shot a 99 and senior Jacob Pierce shot a 104.

“The team fell a little short of a Top 2 finish in the conference standings,” Reeths-Puffer coach Matt Pallett said. “After the poor start to the year, I am proud that the guys put themselves in a position to go for it today. Unfortunately, today was not our day.”

Next Tuesday, Mona Shores, Reeths-Puffer and Grand Haven will compete in the Division 1 regional tournament at Sunnybrook Country Club in Grandville. The host is Hudsonville.
