GRANT – After its first game with Grant was cut short after five innings in a 10-0 loss, Hart baseball battled back for a 4-4 tie in the evening finale.
The Pirates recorded just four hits in the loss to the Tigers. Grant plated seven runs in the third inning.
Junior ace Blake Weirich struck out three batters in the first two innings, but it was the third inning when Grant’s offense kicked in.
The Tigers batted in seven runs on five hits.
Weirich took the loss, allowing seven runs on seven hits and one walk, while striking out four.
The second game was better for Hart, but they still struggled offensively.
The Pirates who got on the board first. Ty Schlukebir doubled to center field, driving in a run. That lead last until the next half inning as Grant brought two across for a 2-1 advantage.
That score remained until the fifth inning when Hart tied it up on a single from Weirich. Each team scored two runs in the sixth inning, but the game was ended due to a lack of daylight.
Grant (11-15) will take on Alma in district action at Newaygo at 10 a.m. Saturday.
Hart (10-19-1) will take on White Cloud in Hart in the second semifinal game at noon Saturday.
