NORTON SHORES – The Fruitport boys soccer team topped Mona Shores in the season opener on Wednesday evening, 3-2.

Fruitport’s Ryder Merkins, Taylen Acocks and Eli Aldridge netted a goal apiece with assists from Brady Brown and Isaac Vandermolen.

Clayton Brown and Easton Lopez each scored a goal for the Sailors.

Trojan goalkeeper Logan Werschem stopped six shots.

The Trojans’ backline of Brown, Braxton Ward and Isaiah Packard was credited with solid play by Coach Dan Hazekamp.

Fruitport (1-0) will be at home on Saturday against Shelby and Ludington.

Mona Shores (0-1) hosts Jenison on Saturday.
