LUDINGTON — Ludington’s volleyball team swept a home quad Wednesday, defeating Clare (29-25, 26-24), Fenton (18-25, 25-19, 15-13) and McBain (25-14, 25-12).

“We had our ups and downs, but ultimately the girls pulled together and played really well,” Orioles head coach Liz Holden said. “We got ourselves into a couple of slumps and had to work our way out, but they came through, dug deep and got it done.

“The teams we played had great defense and some tough hitters, so we had to work hard to put balls away. We have a very offensive team with some decent height, so when we go up against great defense, we have to get creative to get the points.”

Leading the way for the Orioles was Maddy Vaara with 28 kills, four aces, 14 digs and three blocks. Jordyn Anderson contributed 55 assists, four aces, three kills, nine digs and four blocks.

Karli Mesyar followed with 33 digs, five assists and two aces. Mia Voss hammered down 10 kills, had one dig and two blocks. Ashley McPike had 13 kills, four digs and nine blocks.

Mia Pung finished with five aces and nine digs. Mya Bryant added four aces and seven digs. Jaelyn Laird contributed 11 kills, one ace, three digs and three blocks, and Lilly Slater had three digs, one kill, one block and one assist.

“The girls played hard and left me with no doubt that we have a really good and fun season ahead,” said Holden. “I have high hopes and we are setting our standards high. I cannot wait to see what this team does this year.”

Ludington’s next match is scheduled for 9 a.m. Friday at the Coopersville Invite.
