MUSKEGON – The Mona Shores Sailors, led by medalist Mayson Southland, won the season’s first OK-Green golf jamboree on Tuesday.
 
Southland shot a 40 to lead the Sailors to a team total of 185 in the event at Muskegon Country Club.
 
The Reeths-Puffer Rockets shot a 196 and finished second. Zeeland West (210) was third, followed by Zeeland East (220) and Holland (249).
 
Following Southland for the Sailors were Lainee Carmean in fifth place with a 46, Maddie Etterman in eighth at 49 and Summer Darrow in ninth with a 50. Other Sailor golfers included Raelyn Tyler (61) and Avery Nehra (72).
 
The Rockets were paced by senior Paige Anderson with a second-place finish at 41. Junior Rowan Bluhm tied for sixth with a 48 and freshman Sophia McCollum shot a 53. Rounding out the Rocket golfers were junior Avery Luna with a 54, senior Abby Haak with a 63 and freshman Olivia Ambler with a 71.
 
“The country club is a course that can quickly cause you to have a bad hole or two,” Rocket coach Matt Pallett said. “A couple of my girls had a few bad holes that affected their final score. I like the way my girls battled today.”
 
Today, the Rockets will be at the Whitehall Invitational.
 
Mona Shores will be at Zeeland East on Wednesday, Sept. 6.
