MUSKEGON – North Muskegon’s passing game put on quite a show on Thursday night at Kehren Stadium, the home of the Muskegon Catholic Central Crusaders.

Quarterback James Young completed 19-of-20 passes for 391 yards and four touchdowns and led the Norsemen to a 41-21 victory over the host Crusaders. Young’s favorite target, by far, was senior Landon Christensen, who scored four receiving touchdowns. For the game, Christensen caught six passes for 260 yards and had touchdown catches of 59, 32, 12 and 78 yards.

North Muskegon led 7-0 after one quarter and extended it to 28-7 at the half.

Ben Meyers opened the scoring for the Norsemen with a 1-yard touchdown run. In the second quarter, Young connected with Christensen then Tristan Thomas scored on an 11-yard run to stake the visitors to a 21-0 lead.

Catholic got on the board with less than 2 minutes remaining before halftime on a 3-yard rushing touchdown by Vince Szymanski.

However, the quick strike North Muskegon offense scored again with 33 seconds left in the half on a Young-to-Christensen scoring play from 32 yards out.

In the second half, Christensen scored his third touchdown to make it 35-7.

The Crusaders answered back on a 1-yard touchdown run by Henry Rosema. That was followed yet again by a Young to Christensen touchdown, this time for 78 yards.

Tim Railling capped the scoring for Muskegon Catholic with a 29-yard touchdown run.

Ben Meyers finished with five carries for 49 yards for North Muskegon. TJ Byard had six receptions for 65 yards.

MCC’s Bryan Convertini completed 5-of-12 passes for 34 yards and rushed 18 times for 80 yard to lead the offense.

Easton Cook was the leading tackler for MCC (0-2) with 6.5 stops.

North Muskegon (2-0) travels to Mason County Central next Friday.

Muskegon Catholic travels to Benton Harbor to take on the Tigers.
