FREMONT – Make it seven straight victories for the Fremont boys soccer team after the Packers downed Shelby 3-1 in a West Michigan Conference matchup.
Fremont’s Chaz Miller got the scoring started nine minutes into the match to take a 1-0 lead. The score would stay that way through the remaining 31 minutes in the first half.
Joey Mansfield bettered Fremont’s advantage eight minutes into the second half, converting on an assist from Tee Ward. Deagan Klimek netted the Packers’ final goal of the night on a header that was made possible by a pass from teammate Joey Mansfield.
Shelby fought back with 13 minutes left when Venancio Cadena netted an assist from Alan Arreola to bring the game’s final score to 3-1.
Caleb Vissia was in net for the Packers and recorded 10 saves. The Tigers’ keeper Ismael “Smiley” Valdez made 13 saves for Shelby.
Fremont (12-0-1, 4-0-1) travels to Hart to take on the Pirates on Wednesday.
Shelby was unable to make it two straight wins and fell to 6-4-1 on the year with a 3-3 record in the conference. The Tigers will look to rebound when they host Ravenna on Wednesday.
