Fruitport blanks Spring Lake in rivalry game in soccer

FRUITPORT – The Fruitport boys’ soccer team shut down crosstown rival Spring Lake in OK Conference-Blue action on Monday evening.

The Trojans topped the Lakers, 2-0.

Ryder Merkins netted the go-ahead goal and Isaac Vandermolen added an insurance goal. Jorge Burgos-Yack had a single assist.

Goalkeeper Logan Werschem posted the shutout with five saves.

The backline of Eli Aldridge, Brady Brown, Sam Krueger and Braxton Ward were critical in holding off the Lakers’ offense.

Fruitport (8-2-2, 3-2-1) will be at Grand Rapids West Catholic on Wednesday for league play.

Spring Lake will take on conference rival Hamilton on the road Wednesday.
