FRUITPORT – Homecoming started out pretty good for the Fruitport Trojans, but did not end so well on Friday night.

The Trojans scored early in the opening quarter, but then surrendered a whole lot of points against Hudsonville Unity Christian and fell 58-20.

Fruitport’s Bradon Dornbos returned a fumbled punt 19 yards for a score to put the hosts up 7-0 within minutes of the start of the game.

But then the floodgates opened as the Crusaders scored 22 points in the first quarter and 14 more in the second to grab a 36-13 lead at the half. Fruitport’s other first-half touchdown was a 56-yard run by Kayden Beardsley, who finished the evening with eight carries for 88 yards.

By the end of the third quarter, Unity owned a 51-13 lead.

The Trojans’ final score was a 2-yard pass from backup quarterback Brady Hanson to DayDay Williams.

Fruitport (0-6) travels to Coopersville next Friday night.
