HESPERIA – As she has for the past three years, Navea Gauthier led Shelby volleyball to another win on Thursday evening. This time, the Tigers flew to victory in six sets over three opponents at a quad meet hosted by Hesperia.

The Tigers beat Oakridge in two sets, 25-21 and 25-14, LeRoy Pine River in two sets, 27-25, 25-18 and Hesperia in two sets 25-20 and 25-14.

Gauthier dominated on the offensive attack, recording 64 kills to lead Shelby. Audrey Horton served as the distributor with 59 assists on the night. Serving was also a strong suit as the Tigers put up 18 aces as a team.

“(Gauthier’s) shot selection and ability to turn a broken play into an offensive threat continues to keep teams on their heels and creates a lot of free balls for our defense,” Shelby head coach Tom Weirich said. “As we near the home stretch of the season, we want to challenge ourselves against some of the best teams in the state to see where we stand as the tournament approaches.”

That test starts this weekend when Shelby (15-9) travels to Detroit to take part in a tournament amongst some ranked teams.

Hesperia (2-10) will take on Holton on Tuesday while Oakridge will be at Orchard View.
