BENTON HARBOR – After two losses in the friendly confines of Kehren Stadium, the Muskegon Catholic Crusaders hit the road and brought home a victory.

In a defensive struggle, the Crusaders defeated the Benton Harbor Tigers 18-14 in a non-league football contest.

The Crusaders battled back from a 14-6 halftime deficit with two third-quarter touchdowns to earn the victory. The Crusader defense did not allow a score in the second half.

After a scoreless opening quarter, the Crusaders got on the board when quarterback Bryan Convertini hit Jake Westhoff for a 7-yard touchdown pass.

However, on the ensuing kickoff, the Tigers returned it 87 yards for a touchdown. Later in the quarter, the Tigers scored on a 20-yard pass and took that 14-6 lead into the half.

In the third quarter, MCC pulled to within 14-12 when Bode Zygmuntowski hit Convertini for a 32-yard touchdown pass. Later in the quarter, Convertini scored what proved to the game-winning touchdown on an 8-yard run.

Henry Rosema finished with 19 rushes for 71 yards and caught five passes for 31 yards. Convertini completed six of 10 passes for 43 yards.

Will Gowin led the MCC defense with six tackles. Henry Rosema and Bradley Richards had 5.5 tackles each. Richards also picked off a Benton Harbor pass. Jake Westhoff also had 5.5 stops for MCC.

The Crusaders host Kalamazoo Hackett next Friday night.
