ZEELAND – The Reeths-Puffer Rockets’ girls golf team blistered the field on Wednesday and won the fourth OK-Green Jamboree.

The event was played at Crestview Golf Club.

The Rockets finished second in each of the first three league jamborees, but turned in a season-best 167 to outdistance runner-up Zeeland West by 14 strokes and third-place finisher Mona Shores by 16 strokes. After the Rockets’ 167, Zeeland West had 181, Mona Shores at 183, Zeeland East with a 196 and Holland at 233.

According to Rocket coach Matt Pallett, the jamboree victory is the first for the team in five years.

Leading the way with a season-low 36 was senior Paige Anderson. Her 1-over-par score was highlighted by three birdies in nine holes. Junior Rowan Bluhm shot a 41.  She birdied the first two holes. Freshman Sophie McCollum also shot a 41, her personal best as well as parring seven of the nine holes. Avery Luna, a junior, and freshman Olivia Ambler each shot a 49. Abby Haak, a senior, completed the scoring with a 58.

“I have coached many sports and many teams in my 27 years at Reeths-Puffer,” Pallett said. “I am not sure I have ever been more proud of a team than I am tonight. These ladies continue to work hard to reach our team goals.”

Mona Shores was led by Mayson Southland with a 42. She was followed by Raelyn Tyler with a 46, Maddie Etterman at 47 and Lainee Carmean with a 48.

Next up for both the Rockets and Sailors is the Lady Rocket Invitation on Friday at Lincoln Golf Club.
