BIG RAPIDS — A trip to Big Rapids for a quad girls’ volleyball match Thursday night turned out very well for the Ludington spikers.

The Orioles swept all three of their matches, beating Big Rapids (25-11, 25-19), Whitehall (25-17, 25-17) and Fremont (26-24, 25-23).

The latter two are Ludington’s rivals in the West Michigan Conference Lakes Division.

“It was a good night. The girls played hard and got up some good blocking,” said Orioles coach Liz Holden. “They really came together tonight and pushed themselves.”

It was the usual suspects leading the way for Ludington as well, with Maddy Vaara big up front on the net with 27 kills.

Karli Mesyar was the top defender with 25 digs and she added eight assists. Jordyn Anderson set up the Ludington hitters with 29 assists and she also contributed five aces.

Mia Voss contributed 10 kills and two blocks. Lilly Slater had two digs, three kills and three blocks. Ashley McPike added two aces, one dig, six kills and two blocks.  Jaelyn Laird finished with three digs, one assist, 12 kills and five blocks. Mya Bryant contributed eight digs and Mia Pung added two aces, nine digs and one assist.

The Orioles return to the court Saturday for the Morley-Stanwood Invite, which starts at 9 a.m.
