HART – For the first five minutes of Wednesday’s boys soccer match between Hart and Whitehall, it looked like the Vikings were in trouble.

The script was quickly flipped, however, as Whitehall came out with a 1-0 win.

The Pirates had Whitehall backed into their own third of the pitch for the game’s initial five minutes. Once the Vikings gained their footing, Hart struggled to gain quality possessions in the first half.

With six shots on goal in the first half, Whitehall was bound to find the net eventually. They did just that with 23 minutes left to play in the first 40-minute half on a corner kick to take a 1-0 advantage.

Hart gave Whitehall a few scares in the second half, including a shot from sophomore Chase Lorenz that nearly banged in off the crossbar. Adan Cruz also saw an opportunity to score, but Whitehall’s defense prevailed.

Hart keeper Miguel Escamilla made 13 saves in the loss.

The Pirates (2-5) travels to Manistee at 6:30 p.m. Monday.

Whitehall (2-4) will take on Western Michigan Christian at 11 a.m. Saturday.
