GRAND RAPIDS – The Fruitport boys soccer team notched a satisfying Division 2 district semifinal victory over rival Spring Lake on Thursday.

The Trojans got on the board early and carried that momentum through to a 3-0 victory.

“I’m just really proud of the level of focus, attention to detail and execution tonight,” said Fruitport coach Dan Hazekamp. “Our guys stuck to the plan and played extremely hard all night.”

It was a balanced effort as Brady Brown, Isaac Vandermolen and Taylen Acocks each contributed a goal. Jorge Burgos Yack added two assists and Braylon Marshall had one assist.

Goalkeeper Logan Werschem made four saves and kept his streak alive with his 11th consecutive shutout.

“It was a complete team effort from our guys on and off the field,” said Hazekamp. “They were locked in all night.”

Fruitport (16-2-3) will face host Grand Rapids Northview in the district final on Saturday. Northview defeated Allendale 2-0 in Thursday night’s other semifinal contest.
