HAMILTON – The Spring Lake football team ended the regular season on a high note on Friday night.

The Lakers defeated Hamilton 47-38 in an O-K Blue Conference showdown to improve to 7-2 overall on the season and 5-2 in league play. Now, Spring Lake will wait and see who it faces next weekend in the pre-district round of the playoffs.

Both teams played well offensively as Spring Lake had 462 total yards of offense, while the Hawkeyes managed to gain 399 yards. Spring Lake quarterback Reid Grimmer ran for three touchdowns and passed for another.

The Lakers scored the lone touchdown of the opening quarter on a 1-yard run from Grimmer.

After giving up a second quarter 20-yard touchdown run, Spring Lake scored on a 7-yard run from Sam Schafer and a 20-yard scamper by Bryce Collins.

The Lakers led 20-6 at halftime.

Both teams exchanged two touchdowns during the third quarter.

Hamilton scored on a 90-yard touchdown run before the Lakers responded with another 1-yard touchdown run by Grimmer.

The Hawkeyes added another touchdown on a 52-yard run, then Spring Lake responded with a Grimmer 10-yard touchdown run.

The Lakers held a 33-22 advantage heading into the final stanza.

Jackson Lemmen caught a 25-yard touchdown pass from Grimmer to increase the Spring Lake lead to 40-22.

Hamilton responded with a 76-yard kickoff return.

Collins added his second touchdown of the contest with a 21-yard run to increase the Lakers’ lead to 47-30.

The Hawkeyes closed out the scoring with a 22-yard touchdown pass.

Schafer paced the Spring Lake offense with 134 rushing yards on 18 carries and one touchdown while Collins added 125 yards on eight attempts and two scores.

Grimmer went 2-for-4 passing for 71 yards and a touchdown while also rushing for 56 yards on nine carries and three touchdowns.

Lemmen caught two passes for 71 yards and a touchdown.

The Lakers defense was led by George Duggins with 8.5 tackles, while Oliver Smies added six and Colin Burt had 5.5.
