GAYLORD – Chaz Miller will be the talk around school after his dramatic goal on Tuesday night.

Miller scored the game-winning goal with 45 second remaining to give the Fremont Packers a come-from-behind 3-2 victory over Kingsford in the Division 3 soccer regional semifinal.

The Packers (21-1-1) will take on Alma, which defeated Grand Rapids Catholic, 2-0, in the other semifinal game.

Fremont’s fortunes did not look so good at halftime as Kingsford scored two goals and led 2-0 at the half.

Jeff Buckley scored at the 23-minute mark then Jaxon Buckley converted on a Fremont mistake to make it 2-0.

Coach Steve Vissia was able to settle down his team at the half. The Packers were able to gain more ball possession in the second half. Seven minutes into the second half, Silas Rinne buried a shot off a corner kick to get the Packers on the board.

There were other scoring opportunities over the next 20 minutes, but it wasn’t until there were 8 minutes remaining in the second half that Fremont was able to tie the game. Miller scored his first of two after a Packer shot produced a rebound that he banged into the net.

The Packers kept up the pressure and even hit the post. Finally, with 45 seconds remaining, the Packers were rewarded on Miller’s second of the game. Rinne was credited with the assist.

Fremont outshot Kingsford, 15-7. Fremont goalkeeper Caleb Vissia made five saves. Kingsford keeper Adam Landon had 12 saves.

Kingsford ends its season at 21-2.
