NORTH MUSKEGON — Ludington saw its five-game winning streak snapped Monday night when the Orioles were defeated 2-1 at North Muskegon.

The result gives a slight edge to North Muskegon, which is now tied with Fremont for first place in the West Michigan Conference with one game remaining on the regular season schedule.

The Norsemen built a 2-0 lead at the end of the first half with Dallyn Ellis knocking home one and Serj Pastor notching the other. Ellis had the assist.

The Orioles were able to cut their deficit to one just three minutes into the second half when Yebe Boerema finished a pass from Ryan Kandalec.

But the Orioles couldn’t score again despite plenty of chances throughout the remaining minutes.

“We had some great opportunities, but we were just a step short, or put the ball right at the keeper,” Ludington head coach Kris Anderson said. “We just couldn’t quite get to where we needed to be. A lot of that is when you put yourself in a hole, you’re pressing and then you’re off just a little bit. You’re a little tense, a little tight.”

Chase Zizak stood tall with a strong performance in goal for the Norsemen, recording seven saves. North Muskegon lifted its record to 7-7-4 overall and 7-1-1 in the conference. The Norsemen close out their league slate Wednesday on the road at Montague (8-8-1 overall; 4-4-1 WMC).

Ludington fell to 13-5 overall and 7-2 in the WMC, with its final home and league game scheduled for Wednesday against Shelby (7-7-1 overall; 4-5 WMC).
