GRAND RAPIDS – The North Muskegon Norsemen and the Western Michigan Christian Warriors’ boys tennis teams finished in a fourth-place tie on Thursday in the Division 4 regionals.

Grand Rapids West Catholic captured the regional title with 19 points, followed by Grand Rapids Catholic with 13 and host NorthPointe Christian with 8. WMC and North Muskegon each earned 7 points, followed by Calvin Christian with 2. Comstock Park and Wyoming Kelloggsville did not score.

The highlight for North Muskegon is No. 1 singles player Luke Hall, who qualified for the state meet with a regional title. Hall defeated West Catholic’s Jack Holt, 3-6, 7-5, 6-3.

“Luke becomes the first North Muskegon tennis player to make it to the state finals since Nick Schanhals in 2015,” said NM coach Cody Liverance. “I’m so proud of this team and the growth they’ve made this season.”

No 4 singles player Kaden Bartolameolli also had a strong showing at regionals. He lost in the finals after winning a pair of matches.

At No. 2 singles, WM Christian’s Jonas Dutton and North Muskegon’s Carter Mieler, on opposite sides of the bracket, both lost in the semifinals.

Warrior Derek VanderWall won his first-round match and was eliminated in the semifinals.

The Warriors’ highlight came in the doubles where Zach Weare and Nathan Clausing reached the finals before losing to top-seeded Luke Paganelli and Kyle Carpenter from Grand Rapids West Catholic.

Other doubles results included Western Michigan Christian’s Daniel Moorhead and Levi Dutton (No. 1 doubles) and Luke VanderWall and Alex Meyette (No. 2 doubles) losing in the semifinals.

North Muskegon’s Kylan Nielson and Emery Price were eliminated in the semifinal round in No. 3 doubles.
