There are 13 area high school football teams preparing for district playoff action this weekend

The area will be well represented this weekend when 13 local high school football teams begin play in the MHSAA playoffs.

 

Historically, the Muskegon area has been a hotbed for high school football and this year is no different.

 

Those 13 area teams will be playing in 6 of the 8 divisions. The area will not be represented in Division 1 or Division 3. In Division 6, five area teams will be vying for a state title.

 

Here are the opening-round pairings in district play, including dates and times. All games are at 7 p.m. Friday except North Muskegon, which hosts Union City at 1 p.m. Saturday.

Reeths-Puffer (7-2) at Mona Shores (6-3), 7 p.m. Friday

Big Rapids (8-1) at Spring Lake (7-2), 7 p.m. Friday

 

Comstock Park (5-4) at Grand Rapids West Catholic (9-0), 7 p.m. Friday

Oakridge (6-3) at Belding (8-1), 7 p.m. Friday

 

Mason County Central (5-4) at Kingsley (7-2), 7 p.m. Friday

Lake City (6-3) at Manistee (7-2), 7 p.m. Friday
