NORTON SHORES – The Greater Muskegon co-op swimming team earned a Senior Night victory on Tuesday with a 109-76 victory over Holland.
The Turtles won eight out of 12 events.
“The meet, from start to finish, was a good matchup between two teams that have struggled all season to have some fun and have some good swims and dives tonight in an old school meet,” said Turtles coach Mick Homan.
“No touchpads, no scoreboard, no timing system, just a whistle, stopwatches and six lanes to swim fast in.”
Sydney Sytsema was a double winner with wins in the 50 free (27.10) and 100 free (1:00.12). Susie VanBaale finished first in the 200IM (2:39.72) and 100 breast (1:15.58).
Hollen Emmick qualified for the MHSAA regional meet with a first-place finish in the dives (183.80 points). Eva Stout won the 200 free (2:19.93).
Sytsema, VanBaale, Stout and Marilyn Gaston finished on top in the 200-medley relay with a season best time of 2:03.81, while Sophia Zziwambazza, Millie Curow, Isabella DeJonge and Maria Eenigenburg won the 400-free relay (4:28.15).
“Overall, it was great to see the team share in the excitement and fun of Senior Night and fight for a win for the seniors,” Homan said. “I was very proud of the total team effort tonight from setting up for the meet to cheering for everyone and finally working as a team cleaning up after the meet.”
The Turtles will be at Holland Aquatic Center on Tuesday for a rematch with Holland.
