ZEELAND – The Greater Muskegon co-op swimming team closed out the season with a sixth-place finish at the OK Rainbow Tier 1 conference meet over the weekend.

The Turtles accumulated 81 season-best times and 59 personal record swims and dives.

“The girls fought and battled in every race, never backing down to pain or soreness,” said Turtles coach Mick Homan. “You know you had a great swim when you could barely get out of the pool without help or you saw those huge smiles along with the big cheers.

“Overall, it was a great end to the season and a great way to send off our eight seniors.”

Susie Van Baale finished fifth in the 100 breast (1:14.54 PR), while Sydney Sytsema, Eva Stout, Maria Eenigenburg and Marilyn Gaston came in fifth place in the 200-free relay (1:47.93 SB).
