The Muskegon Lumberjacks dropped their second straight contest as they fell to the Sioux Falls Stampede 5-3 on Friday night at the Denny Sanford Premier Center in South Dakota.

The Lumberjacks are now 12-9-2 on the season, good for 26 points and a tie for fourth place in the USHL’s Eastern Conference.

Muskegon will look to bounce back tomorrow in a rematch against the Stampede. Faceoff is slated for 8:00 p.m.

The Stampede opened the scoring 2:59 into the game with a goal from Hayden Reid.

The Lumberjacks tied the game 1-1 with a goal from Sacha Boisvert at the 11:53 mark of the opening period.

Muskegon took its first lead of the contest 18:00 into the first period with a goal by Cooper Pierson to give the Jacks a 2-1 advantage.

Sioux Falls tied the contest 2-2 with just 45 seconds remaining in the opening period on a goal from J.J. Wiebusch.

The contest was tied 2-2 through 20 minutes of play with the Jacks outshooting Sioux Falls by an 18-8 margin.

The Stampede scored the lone goal of the second period as Grant Dillard scored 7:13 into the stanza to give Sioux Falls a 3-2 heading into the final frame.

Muskegon had 24-18 shots on goal advantage through 40 minutes of play.

The Lumberjacks tied the game 3-3 with a goal from Patrick Raftery at the 2:34 mark of the third period.

Sioux Falls regained its advantage on Wiebusch’s second goal of the game at the 13:33 mark of the third period.

The Stampede closed out the scoring with an empty net goal from Tyler Borgula with 21 seconds remaining in the contest.

Both teams recorded 28 shots on goal as Lukas Swedin suffered the loss in net, stopping 23-of-27 shots on net.

The Lumberjacks were 1-for-2 on the power play, while killing off three of Sioux Falls’ four power plays.
