PENTWATER — Pentwater’s boys basketball team rebounded from its first loss of the season Wednesday night by throttling Bear Lake 65-33 in the West Michigan D League.
Showing a strong defensive presence from the outset, the Falcons came within a whisker of recording a shutout in the first quarter as Mikey Carlson and Will Werkema-Grondsma dominated the rebounding.
The Falcons held the Lakers to just two points in the first quarter and took a 10-2 lead into the second. Bear Lake kept pace with Pentwater in the second period, each team scoring 13 points, but the Falcons carried a 23-15 lead into the half.
Jonny Arnouts, Carlson and Trey Johnson were firing on all cylinders in the third quarter and the defense was focused and disciplined.
Pentwater rolled up a 21-9 advantage in the third and went into the fourth with a 44-24 cushion. The Falcons ended the game with a 21-12 edge.
Arnouts led the Falcons with 16 points, Johnson finished with 13 and Werkema-Grondsma added 11. Carlson contributed eight.
Pentwater improved to 4-1 overall and 4-0 in the WMD, with a road trip to Big Rapids for another WMD game with Crossroads Academy on Friday night.
