KENT CITY – The Kent City girls basketball team put away Western Michigan Christian 35-20 on Wednesday evening.

Both teams opened slowly and the score after the first quarter was just 5-3. The Eagles slowly picked up speed to increase their lead and outscored the Warriors 15-4 in the third quarter.

“In the first half, we played great defense and had some great stops on defense,” said WMC coach Sarah Koetsier. “We let up in the third quarter and struggled to come back.”

The Warriors’ Ashley Folkema had nine points, six steals and five rebounds. Hannah Heiss chipped in six steals and scored three points, while Maria Eenigenburg had seven rebounds and four points.

Kent City (2-1, 1-0) hosts Grand Rapids NorthPointe Christian on Monday.

WMC (2-1) will be at home on Friday against Newaygo.
