FRUITPORT – The Montague boys basketball team battled from a deficit on Tuesday night and defeated Fruitport 61-48.

The Trojans led 19-14 after one quarter and 29-28 at the half. However, a run of 33-21 in the second half pushed Montague to the victory.

Isaiah Atchison led Montague with 17 points, 12 rebounds, seven steals, five blocks and four assists. Paul Olson scored 14 points and grabbed nine rebounds, while Owen Raeth posted 12 points. Jake Heiss added nine points.

The Trojans’ Ryan Bosch scored 22 points and Kyle Burke added eight points. Grade Anspach and Hudson Hazekamp threw in six points apiece.

“We were able to get off to a hot start, but we could not sustain our level of play for four quarters,” Fruitport coach Steve Erny said. “We will work hard to grow and learn from some of these early disappointments and get better.”

Montague (4-1, 1-1) will be at home on Thursday for a WMC-Lakes matchup against Whitehall.

Fruitport (1-2) will travel to Fremont on Thursday.
