MUSKEGON – Travis Ambrose continues to be a major force for the Reeths-Puffer Rocket boys’ basketball team.

Ambrose cut loose for 32 points, 15 rebounds and five blocks in the Rockets’ 69-53 victory over the Mona Shores Sailors.

The game was the OK-Green opener for both teams on Friday night.

“Ambrose was as dominant in this game as any player I have seen,” said Rockets’ coach Nathan Aardema. “He benefited from us having poise against their pressure defense and moving the ball on offense.”

The Sailors nipped at the Rockets’ heels with a 17-16 first quarter, but the Rockets stayed focused and held a 15-8 second-quarter scoring advantage to build the lead.

Jaxson Whitaker scored 17 points and made four assists for the Rockets. Marvin Moore added eight points and three assists, while Antrel Jones pulled down eight rebounds.

The Sailors’ Jon Pittman contributed 19 points.

“It was a great way to start league play for us,” Aardema said. “Mona Shores came in 6-1 and had won decisively against opponents we have in common. Our kids did a good job of battling throughout the night and making key plays when we needed them.”

Reeths-Puffer (7-1, 1-0) will continue league action as they travel to Holland on Tuesday.

Mona Shores (6-2, 0-1) visits Muskegon on Tuesday in OK-Green action.
