SHELBY – Wrestlers from Hart, Shelby and Montague competed at a tri-meet hosted by the Tigers. The Pirates came away with wins over both teams while Montague went 1-1 and Shelby 0-2.
Hart started their dominant day with a 69-6 win over Shelby, taking victories in 12 of the 14 matches between the rival schools.
Scoring pins against Shelby for Hart were Emmanuel Ortega, Halen Boos, Kai Miller, Joseluis Andaverde, Chico Salgado, Eman Hertzler, Alex Hicks, Ivan Lara, Adrian Lara and Kole Thomas. Ty Thomas won a match by 6-1 decision and Haegan Hansen was awarded a win by forfeit.
Shelby’s Nick Cano and Christian Wright were the only two Tigers to win matches against Hart, each winning by decision.
Hart then moved on to defeat Montague. Shelby improved from their lopsided loss to the Pirates, falling in a much closer 46-32 contest with the Wildcats.
Cano became the only Tiger to go 2-0 on the day with a pin on Montague’s Brock Hunter. Jaylin Henderson, Ivan Fessenden and Dominic Mulder also notched pins in Shelby’s meeting with Montague while Brody Fessenden won by a 7-2 decision and Juan Brito by technical fault.
