HART – Once again, the road to a WMC Rivers title will go through Hart as the Pirate girls’ basketball team defeated Mason County Central on Thursday, 42-31.

Both the Pirates and Spartans entered Tuesday’s contest at the top of the conference with the winner in control of their own destiny the rest of the way. After getting out to a 9-6 lead, MCC fell victim to the Pirates’ talented offense.

The Pirates took control of the lead to end the first quarter and never lost it again. With a 30-22 deficit at the end of three quarters, MCC did their best to fight back, but Hart was able to answer at every turn.

Hart was led by the experienced combo of Addi Hovey (12 points, six rebounds, three steals) and Abby Hicks (10 points, 10 rebounds, five assists). Rilynn Porter chipped in 10 points as well while Kelsey Copenhaver added eight points and five rebounds.

Hart (4-2, 3-0 WMC Rivers) will travel to Hesperia next Tuesday for a meeting with the Panthers.

MCC (5-1, 2-1 WMC Rivers) will host Shelby on Tuesday.
