HOLTON – Holton’s girls basketball team notched its sixth win of the year on Thursday, downing Shelby 55-42.

The Red Devils took a 14-11 lead early over Shelby and built upon it after each frame. When the third quarter came to a close, Holton had a 15-point advantage. Shelby fought hard, cutting the Red Devils’ lead to 11 before ultimately falling.

“We needed a game like this,” Holton coach Robert Jordan said. “The last four have been routs, so it was good for us to have a game that was closer than the previous. Balance will always be our best and we had it again tonight.”

Holton was paced by Layla Cannady who hit four three-pointers and led the team with 18 points. Ryann Robins recorded her sixth double-double of the year with 10 points and 10 rebounds while Aubrey Goyings had eight points and 10 rebounds. Abbie Fowler added 13 points in the winning effort.

Shelby was led by Molli Schultz and Brylee Friedman, who each scored 12. Biloxi Lee added six rebounds.

Holton (6-1, 2-1 WMC Rivers) will be back in action on Monday when they host White Cloud.

Shelby (4-3, 2-2 WMC Rivers) will travel to Scottville on Tuesday for a meeting with Mason County Central.
