MUSKEGON — The Ludington girls basketball team took out its frustration on Oakridge Friday night in the West Michigan Conference Lakes Division, 50-24.

A little sluggish coming out of the blocks, the Orioles used their defense to stifle the Eagles and gained an 11-8 first-quarter lead, and then rolled up a 15-3 advantage in the second for a 26-11 halftime lead.

Oakridge stayed closer to the Orioles in the third period, but Ludington still had more points, 14-10, and entered the fourth holding command, 40-21.

“Once we got rolling, it was nice to score some points and settle into the night as a team,” said Ludington coach Warren Stowe. “It’s been a tough week. We feel like we let one get away Tuesday night. Every game is important, and that’s the mindset we take.”

Elianna Jeruzal notched 16 points for the Orioles, Madelyn Kenyon finished with nine while Peyton Welch added seven.

Kaelinn Jozsa led the Eagles with eight, Madison Bowen had seven and Anna Lundquist added six.

Ludington improved to 7-6 on the season, 5-1 in the conference. The Orioles are scheduled to face Cadillac at home Monday.

It was the third straight loss for the Eagles (2-8, 1-5) have a home makeup game against Montague on Monday.
